The Eagle Scout Project is the final step for a Life Scout to advance to the highest rank in Boy Scouts: Eagle. For my project, I made four picnic tables at Oceans Academy, a local school. Overall, I planned all aspects of the project, raised about $800, and organized over ten volunteers.
When I visited the school, I noticed they had a backyard area for the students to spend time in during their breaks, but it had only one folding table. At my high school, eating outside was much nicer than eating inside, especially during the spring months. I chose to make a more permanent structure so that the students could also have a space to enjoy their lunch outside.
I started planning the project in October 2023. Over the next few months, I organized the project details, such as the materials, the logistics, and the funds. Funds were raised from community donations through GoFundMe. Initially, I aimed to raise about $1200. This was much higher than what I needed. By the time I finalized the budget, the costs totaled to around $800. I set the high goal as a precaution so that any unexpected costs wouldn’t get in the way.
After two months of organizing, I gathered 11 adults, friends, and scouts to execute the project. I divided the project into three steps: assembling, sanding, and painting the tables. This way, the tables would be finished much faster in an organized manner. We finished the project in about 8 hours, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
